The New Jersey Sparks Elite, a first-year adidas-sponsored program, used a 27-6 second-half margin to blow past EBO Elite (Calif.) 58-31 and win the 2012 adidas National Championship Wednesday at the Kentucky Exposition Center.

Teana Muldrow, a senior-to-be from East Orange Campus (N.J.) scored 18 points to lead an otherwise balanced scoring attack for the Sparks.

“These kids work so hard and deserve this,” New Jersey coach Keith Gilchrist said. “We just wanted to come here, work hard every game and take it one game at a time. This was a great opportunity in a great environment and we’re happy to be here.”

Gilchrist also spoke highly of his star player Muldrow, who was often the topic of sideline chatter by college coaches and recruiting services in attendance.

“She’s so versatile; she can shoot from the perimeter, handle the ball and just does so much for us,” Gilchrist said. “She’s going to be a special player.”

Muldrow is attracting a steady amount of Division I attention, including current scholarship offers from Oklahoma, Syracuse, West Virginia, Seton Hall, Miami (Florida), Florida State, Florida and others, she said.

“I didn’t really expect this, but we came together as a team and made a name for ourselves (this week),” said Muldrow, clasping to the gleaming tournament trophy. “There’s no words to explain the feeling (of this championship). To be number one, it just feels great. I can’t wait to call my mom and tell her we won the whole thing and are the adidas queens.”
